Beyond Your Greatest Dreams
Have you ever had a dream you wanted to accomplish? If you can think back to your childhood, I bet you can remember a time when someone asked you what you wanted to be when you grew up. Do you remember what you told them? I honestly can’t! Perhaps you told them you wanted to be a doctor, or maybe a lawyer, or maybe you were incredibly hopeful that someday you would be a professional athlete or entertainer. You see, when you are a kid the world feels limitless and everything seems possible…so why not dream big?
As we grow up, it seems natural that our dreams begin to morph. Maybe we made some concessions and decided to pick a career path that is more plausible, lucrative, or helpful. Our dreams also shift as we begin to think beyond ourselves and have dreams of a spouse, children, a home, etc. As we grow older our dreams seem to fall into two categories: realistic and optimistic. We all have realistic dreams that are very close to being considered plans because we know we can make them happen within a few days, months, or years. However, we also have those optimistic dreams that seem impossible and only likely if we happen to hit the lottery.
We all have dreams, some realistic and some far more optimistic. In Ephesians 4:20, Paul names God as the one “...who is able to do immeasurably more than all we ask or imagine…” Paul declares God as the one who is able to do the things that we are unable to do. He declares that God can not be measured by any human metrics. Finally, he declares that even in our greatest requests or dreams we don’t come close to what God can do. Quite simply put, Paul is saying that God is God and we are not.
Our greatest dreams are great to have. They motivate us individually and can be quite beneficial to our families and community…but, they are nothing compared to what God wants to see happen. He is in the business of making the impossible possible and he wants to use us to help make that happen. Will we let him work in us and through us? If we do, we will see things beyond our greatest dreams happen right before our very own eyes.
Grace and Peace,
Austin
